Argatroban is a drug that belongs to the class of sodium salts, and is used for the treatment of blood disorders in children. Argatroban inhibits coagulation by binding to antithrombin III, which prevents it from interacting with thrombin and other clotting factors. This drug has been shown to have an antibody response in humans, as well as a biochemical composition that is similar to that of heparin. Argatroban also has drug interactions with coumadin and warfarin, and should not be administered to patients with liver impairment or specific antidotes.
