Description:
Arsenobetaine bromide is a water-soluble derivative of arsenocholine. It has been shown to have a low molecular weight and can be detected by spectrophotometric methods in the UV region at about 240 nm. Arsenobetaine bromide has been used as a marker for the presence of arsenic in foods and beverages. It has also been used to determine dry weight, on-line, and size-exclusion chromatography. The extraction yield of arsenobetaine bromide from muscle tissue was found to be greater than that obtained from tissues such as skin, liver, or kidney. Arsenobetaine bromide has also shown potential as an anticancer drug due to its ability to inhibit cell growth and induce apoptosis in tumor cells.
