9-Aminofluorene hydrochloride is an anion radical that can be protonated or deprotonated. 9-Aminofluorene hydrochloride has been shown to interact with potassium t-butoxide, forming a complex that can undergo bond cleavage. This reaction produces the amine and a chloroformate. The chloroformate reacts with ammonia to form a fluorous quaternary ammonium salt and an imine. The fluorous quaternary ammonium salt is highly fluorescent, which can be detected by UV light. 9-Aminofluorene hydrochloride also undergoes the Amadori rearrangement in the presence of acid, yielding a ketone and an amine.
