2-Azido-1-methyl-6-phenylimidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (2AMPI) is a genotoxic compound that is used to induce mutations in mammalian cells. This compound binds to DNA and causes mutations by forming covalent bonds with amines. 2AMPI has been shown to induce mutations in the Acetylation gene of v79 cells in humans and to be genotoxic activity in mammalian cells. In particular, 2AMPI has been shown to cause an increase in the number of chromosomal aberrations, sister chromatid exchanges, and micronuclei. These effects are polymorphic and strain dependent.
