4-Azido-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzoic acid is a chemical used to study the transcriptional regulation of genes. It is a small molecule that binds with high affinity to the response element in the promoter region of genes and alters gene expression. The transcriptional regulation of genes by 4-azido-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzoic acid has been studied in wild-type strains of Galleria mellonella and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This compound also inhibits fatty acid synthesis in yeast and has been shown to inhibit glutamate dehydrogenase activity in fungus. 4-Azido-2,3,5,6-tetrafluorobenzoic acid has also been found to inhibit protein synthesis in the presence of RNA polymerase II.
