Synonyms:
  • 4-Azido-2-hydroxybenzoic acid4-Azido-2-hydroxy-benzoic acid
Description:

4-Azidosalicylic acid is a potent inhibitor of glutamate dehydrogenase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of glutamate to α-ketoglutarate. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of leukemia cells in vitro and in vivo. This drug also inhibits the proliferation of lymphocytic leukemia cells by inhibiting the synthesis of DNA. The kinetic data for this compound are based on studies with plant physiology. 4-Azidosalicylic acid has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of proton transport in plants and is believed to act as a competitive antagonist at uptake sites on mitochondria. This drug also binds to affinity ligands, such as colorectal adenocarcinoma and hydroxyl groups.
