4-Aminocyclohexaneacetic acid (ACHA) is a reagent that is used in the industrial production of ethyl esters and carboxylic acids. It has been shown to be effective in the separation of these two compounds by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The diameter of the column, impeller speed and type of stationary phase are all factors that affect the efficiency of ACHA. HPLC analysis can also be used to separate isomers or stereoisomers. 4-Aminocyclohexaneacetic acid has been used as an intermediate for the synthesis of carbamates and other organic compounds. This chemical has a dehydrating effect on alkaloids, which are known to cause allergic reactions in humans when ingested orally.
