6-Acetamidohexanoic acid sodium salt is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the class of drugs called fatty acids. 6-Acetamidohexanoic acid sodium salt inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandin and leukotrienes, which are responsible for inflammation and pain. It is used to treat bowel disease, such as ulcerative colitis, which is characterized by chronic inflammation of the large intestine and other parts of the digestive system. 6-Acetamidohexanoic acid sodium salt has been shown to be effective in treating bowel disease when used in conjunction with steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. This drug also has a chemical stability that exceeds that of aspirin and ibuprofen.
