Aminoethylphosphinic acid is a phosphinic acid that can react with alcohols to form esters. It has been shown to inhibit the histone deacetylase (HDAC) enzyme, which is involved in the transcriptional regulation of genes, in vivo and in vitro. The HDAC inhibitor activity of aminoethylphosphinic acid may be due to its ability to inhibit the biosynthesis of matrix molecules, such as proteoglycans, by inhibiting aminotransferase activity. This chemical has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects on skin cells. Aminoethylphosphinic acid has been synthesized onto a polymer film and applied as a pharmaceutical preparation for treatment of skin conditions.
