4-Aminomethylbenzenesulfonamide hydrochloride is a biocompatible polymer that has antibacterial efficacy. This compound is used for the treatment of wounds and burns, as well as for the prevention of infections. 4-Aminomethylbenzenesulfonamide hydrochloride may also be used to treat skin ulcers, osteomyelitis, and soft tissue infections. It has been shown to be effective against sulfa drugs resistant bacteria such as Mafenide-resistant strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterococcus faecalis. In vivo models have shown that this polymer is stable in human serum and at pH levels ranging from 5 to 9. 4-Aminomethylbenzenesulfonamide hydrochloride can also be used to prevent infection by inhibiting the growth of infectious agents such as staphylococci, streptococci, Clostridium difficile,
