Adipamide is a hydrogen bond-forming amide derived from adipic acid. It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water, alcohols and ethers. Adipamide has been shown to inhibit the activity of enzymes that are involved in the hydrolysis of fatty acids by acting as a competitive inhibitor with respect to the substrate, such as hydroxyl group and carboxyl group. The rate of reaction of an enzyme is dependent on the concentration of substrates and inhibitors, which are rate-limiting factors. Adipamide also has thermal expansion properties similar to those of polystyrene.
