2-Acrylamido-2-methyl-1-propanesulfonic acid (AMPS) is a proton-donor that is often used as a buffer in aqueous solutions. It is an organic salt that has been shown to have biological properties such as transport properties, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with water molecules. AMPS can also form hydrogen bonds with the hydroxyl group of other compounds and is considered an acidic compound. The optimum concentration of this compound in solution is 10 mM at pH 3.5.
