Beta-(3-Amino-2,4,6-triiodophenyl)propionic acid is a nitrogen-containing compound that is used in the synthesis of various other compounds. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of anhydrides, such as ethyl chloroacetate, and can be used for the preparation of choline salts. Beta-(3-Amino-2,4,6-triiodophenyl)propionic acid reacts with acetic anhydride to form beta-(3-Amino-2,4,6-triiodophenoxy)acetic acid. This reaction is catalyzed by a strong base such as sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. Beta-(3-Amino-2,4,6-triiodophenyl)propionic acid hydrolyzes to release hydrogen iodide and produce dibasic acid.
