Acetaldehyde di-isoamyl acetal is an organic molecule with a molecular weight of 186.3 g/mol and a chemical formula of C9H14O2. It is an aldehyde, one of the simplest compounds containing a carbonyl group (C=O). Acetaldehyde di-isoamyl acetal has been shown to have acidic properties, which are due to the presence of hydroxyl groups (-OH) and carboxylic acid groups (-COOH) in its structure. This compound has been shown to function as a nucleophile in reactions with other molecules, meaning that it will react with electrophiles such as nitrous acid or Lewis acids such as aluminum chloride. Acetaldehyde di-isoamyl acetal reacts with perlite at room temperature and high pressure to form porous perlite foams. These foams can be used for insulation and soundproofing applications.
