4-Aminobenzoic anhydride is a white solid that is soluble in water, alcohols and ethers. It is synthesized by the condensation of anhydrous ethanol with chalcone in the presence of an acid catalyst. 4-Aminobenzoic anhydride can be purified by recrystallization from aqueous or alcoholic solution. The compound has been used for the synthesis of diamines, and as a precursor to other aromatic compounds.
4-Aminobenzoic anhydride has been analyzed experimentally to determine its elemental composition. The analysis found that this compound contains carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen in the ratio 1:3:2, respectively.
