Name:
Z-D-Asp-OH
Synonyms:
  • 2-Phenylmethoxycarbonylaminobutanedioic acid
  • z-D-Asp
  • Cbz-D-Asp-Oh
  • Cbz-D-aspartic acid
Description:

Z-D-Asp-OH is a pharmaceutical drug that has been shown to have reversible covalent enzyme inhibition properties. It was developed as a potential cancer therapeutic and is thought to inhibit the growth of epidermal cells. Z-D-Asp-OH has been shown to decrease the proliferation of mammalian cells in culture, which may be due to its ability to bind with epidermal growth factor (EGF) and prevent it from interacting with its receptors on the surface of cells. Z-D-Asp-OH has also been shown to inhibit the production of EGF by tissue extracts from mouse skin. This drug also binds with high affinity to hydroxyl groups found in biological molecules through hydrogen bonding, which is a mechanism for reversible covalent enzyme inhibition.
