4-Amino-3-methylbenzensulfonamide is an ancillary compound that may be used in cancer therapy. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells and reduce the size of tumors. This drug inhibits the activity of carbonic anhydrase, which is a zinc enzyme that converts carbon dioxide into bicarbonate and protons. 4-Amino-3-methylbenzensulfonamide also inhibits adenosine deaminase, which converts adenosine into inosine. This drug also blocks viral replication in cancer cells by inhibiting virus entry into cells and suppressing their ability to produce proteins required for viral replication. The mutant Y181C strain of the bacterium Escherichia coli produces more extracellular nucleotides than wild type strains when grown on media containing glucose as a carbon source. This increased production was due to increased expression of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK
