(1R,2R)-2-Aminocyclohexanol is an oxidation product of cyclohexanone that has been shown to have anticancer activity. The compound has a number of structural features, including a hydroxy group and two aromatic rings. It is an acidic molecule with a pKa of 4.5. In addition, (1R,2R)-2-aminocyclohexanol is soluble in water at neutral pH and decomposes at very high temperatures. It binds to potassium ions and accumulates in the brain, where it may be used for magnetic resonance spectroscopy imaging of brain tumors.
