p-Aminosalicylic acid magnesium salt (PAS) is a drug that is used to treat mental disorders, cancer and other diseases. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of hmg-coa reductase, an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate in the mevalonate pathway. PAS also has prognostic value, as it can help to determine the prognosis of patients with malignant tumors. Its diagnostic value is limited because it does not have any structural similarity with other drugs and its mechanism of action is not well understood. PAS has been found to be a precursor for some compounds that are related homologues but have different structures and properties.
