4-([7-Chloro-4-quinolinyl]amino)-2-([diethylamino]methyl)phenol dihydrochloride dihydrate (BQCA) is a quinoline derivative that inhibits the growth of prostate cancer cells and bone cancer cells. It also has an inhibitory effect on the replication of several viruses, including human papilloma virus, herpes simplex virus type 1, and influenza A virus. BQCA exerts its antitumor activity by inhibiting the rna replication process in malignant brain cells and prostate cancer cells. The compound also inhibits viral life cycle by inhibiting early viral protein synthesis at the level of viral rna production. This inhibition is achieved through competitive inhibition of the enzyme ribonuclease H. Chromatographic methods have been used to determine the binding affinity for ribonuclease H and other enzymes.
