2-Aminobenzoic acid-4-hydroxyethyl sulfone sulfate ester (2ABES) is a small molecule that has been shown to inhibit HIV infection. 2ABES is an aromatic hydrocarbon that has a cavity suitable for binding to the virus. 2ABES binds to the viral envelope protein and blocks the binding of the virus to its target cell, preventing entry into the cell. 2ABES also inhibits lipid synthesis in leukemia cells due to its ability to act as a fatty acid conjugate. The drug is thermally stable and can be formulated in a variety of ways for topical application.
