5-Amino-1-naphthol-3-sulfonic acid is an organic compound that is a derivative of 1-naphthol. It is prepared by the reaction of potassium dichromate with 5-aminoanthranilic acid in ethanol and water, or by the reaction of aziridine with sodium sulfite in sulfuric acid. It has been used as a reagent to measure insulin resistance because it reacts with protonated insulin, which has an activation energy of about 43 kcal/mol. The product is an aminonaphthalene derivative that can be detected spectrophotometrically at 550 nm. 5-Amino-1-naphthol-3-sulfonic acid also has been shown to bind to Toll like receptor 4, which may contribute to its antiinflammatory properties. This compound's potential use in diabetes management was evaluated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) on human diabetic neuro
