L-Argininamide dihydrochloride is an amino acid that is the L-isomer of arginine. It can be used as a molecular probe for a variety of biological systems. L-Argininamide dihydrochloride binds to magnetic particles and can be used to detect hydrogen bonds. This amino acid also has an enzymatic reaction with licheniformis, which produces hydrogen peroxide and ammonia. The hydrolytic reaction between L-argininamide dihydrochloride and water produces ammonia, sodium chloride, and ammonium ions. This compound has been shown to be activated by HIV type 1 protease, which is a proteolytic enzyme found in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
