Product Information

Name:
3-Amino-5-methoxypyridine
Synonyms:
  • 5-Methoxypyridin-3-Amine
  • 5-Methoxy-3-aminopyridine
Description:

3-Amino-5-methoxypyridine is a coumarin derivative that inhibits the biosynthesis of bacterial cell walls. It has been shown to have in vitro antifungal activity against Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. 3-Amino-5-methoxypyridine is also an antibacterial agent with activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Haemophilus influenzae. 3-Amino-5-methoxypyridine binds to the enzyme, acetate extractase, which prevents the formation of acetate from acetic acid and acetaldehyde. Acetate is necessary for the synthesis of cell walls in bacteria. The drug also inhibits the growth of fungi by inhibiting ergosterol synthesis in fungal cells.
