2-Amino-6-bromopurine is a cancer drug that is currently undergoing clinical trials for the treatment of prostate cancer. This drug has shown to be effective in treating prostate cancer cells that are resistant to castration, which are not sensitive to this hormone. 2-Amino-6-bromopurine inhibits DNA polymerase, leading to apoptosis in prostate cancer cells. It also interacts with the thiopurine S-methyltransferase enzyme, which leads to the production of 6-mercaptopurine and 6-thioguanine, which can block DNA synthesis by inhibiting ribonucleotide reductase and thymidylate synthase. 2-Amino-6-bromopurine has been shown to inhibit mutations associated with metastatic castration resistant prostate cancer.
