1-Amino-3-phenylpropan-2-ol is a synthetic dyestuff, which belongs to the class of triazines. It has been used as a food additive and in the synthesis of herbicides. 1-Amino-3-phenylpropan-2-ol can be prepared by cyclization of β,β'-dichloropropionanilide with phenyl lithium or by reaction of aniline with sodium phenoxide in the presence of phosphoric acid. This compound is soluble in water and methanol and can be recrystallized from acetic acid or diluted sulfuric acid. The molecular formula for 1-amino-3-phenylpropan-2-ol is C8H7N4O4S.
