Product Information

Name:
Acetyl bromide
Synonyms:
  • Acetic acid bromide
  • Acety bromide
Description:

Acetyl bromide (CH3COBr) is a colorless, corrosive, highly toxic gas. It is mainly used as a precursor in the manufacture of other chemicals, such as acetaldehyde and acetic acid. Acetyl bromide has been shown to cause metabolic disorders and autoimmune diseases in rats. It also inhibits HIV infection by binding to the fatty acids of the virus envelope that are exposed to the external environment. Acetyl bromide is known for its cationic polymerization properties and it can be used for analytical purposes due to its high reactivity with coumarin derivatives. Acetyl bromide reacts with cyclic peptides through an acid-catalyzed reaction mechanism, leading to the release of hydrogen bromide (HBr). This reaction can be used for infectious diseases as well, as HBr has been shown to inhibit bacteria such as Salmonella typhi and Bacillus anthracis.END>
