N-alpha-Acetyl-L-tryptophan amide is a model system that has been shown to be biocompatible and stable. It is used in the study of choroidal neovascularization, which is an abnormal growth of new blood vessels in the eye. This may lead to severe vision loss or blindness. N-alpha-Acetyl-L-tryptophan amide has been shown to inhibit the production of tryptophan fluorescence in the eye, which may be due to its ability to bind ubiquitin ligases and stabilize these proteins. N-alpha-Acetyl-L-tryptophan amide also inhibits tryptophan fluorescence in human serum and blood samples, which may be due to its ability to form stable complexes with tryptophan.
