Description

N-alpha-Acetyl-L-tryptophan ethyl ester is a competitive inhibitor of tryptophan. It binds to the lysine residues in the active site of the enzyme, thereby blocking access by substrate and preventing catalysis. This agent has been shown to have high inhibitory activity against proteolytic enzymes and can be used as an anti-inflammatory agent. N-alpha-Acetyl-L-tryptophan ethyl ester has also been shown to be a potent inhibitor of phospholipase A2, which is responsible for the hydrolysis of membrane lipid substrates such as arachidonic acid (AA).
