Ala-Phe-OH is a molecule that is absorbed by the caco-2 cells at a rate of 0.1% in vitro and has been shown to inhibit the transport of cytosolic proteins. This molecule has also been shown to bind copper ions, which may be due to its structural similarity with the copper complex. Ala-Phe-OH has been shown to have an acidic pH, binding constants, and an enantiomer as well as a carbonyl group. It is not yet known how this molecule inhibits protein transport in caco-2 cells or what its structure is.
