4-Benzyloxycarbonylamino-butyric acid is a synthetic amino acid that has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of the enzyme enolase. This enzyme is involved in the synthesis of purines and pyrimidines, which are important for DNA replication and repair, respectively. 4-Benzyloxycarbonylamino-butyric acid has also been found to inhibit tumor cell proliferation in fibrosarcoma cells. The mechanism by which this drug exerts its effects on tumor cells is not yet known.
