Description:

Acetyl-L-tyrosine hydrazide is a cyclizing agent that undergoes hydrolysis to form the corresponding hydrazone. It is used in the synthesis of cytidine and has a low toxicity in mammals. Acetyl-L-tyrosine hydrazide is also used as a specific substrate for ribonucleases, such as RNase A and RNase T1, which are commonly used in diagnostic tests for the detection of RNA. The compound also has catalytic activity, and can be used in colorimetric methods for the determination of sugar concentrations. Acetyl-L-tyrosine hydrazide is soluble in organic solvents and crystallizes from water with a melting point of around 200°C. This compound is also colorless but turns yellow when heated to higher temperatures.
