4-Amino-3-formylpyridine is a reactive compound that can be used as an antiamnesic. It is also an acetylcholine receptor antagonist, which may account for its ability to enhance acetylcholine activity. 4-Amino-3-formylpyridine has been shown to inhibit tyrosine kinase and may be useful in the treatment of cancer. This compound is synthetically produced from haloalkenes, such as chloromethane and bromomethane, by reduction with sodium in liquid ammonia. The pyridine ring is then synthesized by reacting 4-amino-3-formylpyridine with benzene in the presence of phosphorus pentachloride and sulfuric acid.
