3-Amino-4-hydroxypyridine (3AH) is a nuclear aromatic compound that can be synthesized by condensation of 2-aminopyrimidine and formaldehyde. 3AH is a regioisomeric substance that can be functionalized in many ways. 3AH belongs to the lactam class and can be synthesized from phenylacetic acid, acetonitrile, and ammonium acetate. The yields depend on the carboxylic acid used. The protonation constant for 3AH is 1.2 x 10^(-5). The ionization constants are -0.6 x 10^(-3) for the protonations at the carboxylic group, 3.2 x 10^(-3) for amide protonations, and 4.1 x 10^(-6) for aliphatic protonations.
