2-Amino-3-acetylpyridine is a synthetic compound that is used as an accepter in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. It can be synthesized by heating elemental sulfur with 2-aminoethanethiol, yielding 2-amino-3-(2'-thienyl)propane sulfonic acid. This synthesis has been shown to produce yields of up to 96%. The mechanism for this reaction may be due to hydrogen bonding between the sulfur and amines, which are present on both reactants. Hydrogen bonding between the sulfur and amines leads to formation of a thiourea bond.
