2-Aminonicotinic acid methyl ester is a potent antibacterial agent that is active against a wide range of bacteria. It has been shown to be effective against the bacterial strains typhimurium, anthranilate, and methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus. The 2-aminonicotinic acid methyl ester (2-ANA) molecule is synthesized from 6-aminonicotinic acid and methyl anthranilate in an imine formation reaction. The 2-ANA molecule can then react with furfural or naphthalene to form its corresponding 2-aminoquinone, which has been shown to have anti-tumor activity in vivo.
