2-Amino-4,6-dichloropyridine is a reactive dye that can be used for the detection of cellulose in cotton. It reacts with the amine groups on the surface of cotton and produces a red color. The dye was also found to be reactive with electron fields and infrared radiation. The chemical structure of 2-Amino-4,6-dichloropyridine consists of a chloropyrimidine group and two amino groups. It has been observed under microscopy and diffraction, as well as studied using spectroscopy. 2-Amino-4,6-dichloropyridine is thermally stable and does not react with water or other solvents. It has been shown to have strong absorption bands at wavelengths between 740 nm - 800 nm and 860 nm - 900 nm when exposed to infrared light.
