Description:

4-Amino-6-chloroquinoline is a drug that has been shown to have antimalarial activity. It is also active against parasitic protozoans, such as Plasmodium falciparum, and has been shown to be synergistic with chlorpromazine. 4-Amino-6-chloroquinoline binds to the plasma membrane of the parasite and causes structural modification in the nucleus. The drug also inhibits the synthesis of DNA and protein, which leads to cell death. This drug has been shown to be effective against both chloroquine resistant and chloroquine sensitive strains of P. falciparum.
