Description:

2-Acetylpiperidine is a cyclic compound which is found in food chemistry. It has been used for the optimization of solid phase microextraction (SPME) to detect volatile compounds. 2-Acetylpiperidine is synthesized by reacting acetaldehyde with ammonia, followed by heating the product with trifluoroacetic acid. The carbonyl group in this molecule can be deaminated and converted into an amine group. Epingouniensine, a drug that has been shown to have analgesic effects as well as being able to treat migraines, is an example of a compound that contains this amine group.
