N-Acetyl-3,5-diiodo-L-tyrosine is a compound that has been used as a photoaffinity label for the thyroid hormone binding protein albumin. It reacts with the carboxylate group of albumin and forms a covalent bond by an acetylation reaction. This process can be monitored by measuring the fluorescence of the molecule in solution. N-Acetyl-3,5-diiodo-L-tyrosine also reacts with serum albumin, forming an irreversible complex. This irreversible complex can be measured using an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). N-Acetyl-3,5-diiodo-L tyrosine is also known to react with sulfate groups in blood plasma, forming a reversible complex. This reversible complex can be measured using a spectrophotometer at wavelengths between 500 and 550 nm.
