Alizarin Yellow R sodium salt is a hydroxylated dye that belongs to the group of hydroxyl dyes. It is soluble in water and has been used as a dye or pigment in paints, textiles, and leather. Alizarin Yellow R sodium salt has been shown to adsorb onto activated sludge particles in wastewater treatment plants. The adsorption mechanism is thought to be due to hydrogen bonding of the hydrophobic effect and electrostatic interactions between the cationic surfactant and the anionic alizarin. This dye can also be detected using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy by measuring the change in electrical resistance with increasing concentrations of alizarin.
