Description:

Ammonium-4-chloro-7-sulfobenzofurazan is a sulfonated aromatic compound that has been shown to inhibit the HIV virus. It binds to the enzyme human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV) protease and prevents the conversion of the viral protein gp120 and gp41. Ammonium-4-chloro-7-sulfobenzofurazan also inhibits other enzymes such as human erythrocyte lysine aminopeptidase, which are involved in posttranslational protein modifications. This drug also has vasodilatory effects with a constant concentration of 3.2 μM and can be used to treat heart disease.
