3-Amino-4-Phenyl-1H-pyrazole is a prodrug that is neutralized to its active form by hydrochloric acid in the stomach and then converted to 3-amino-4-(phenylsulphonyl)-1H-pyrazole. The drug has been shown to have an antihyperresponsive effect on tracheal chains in guinea pigs, which may be due to its inhibition of nitric oxide synthesis. 3-Amino-4-(phenylsulphonyl)-1H pyrazole also inhibits nitric oxide production in rats and has a potent inhibitory effect on the release of catecholamines from adrenal glands. It has been used as a model for the effects of chronic asthma in animals.
