3-Aminoethylthiophene hydrochloride (3AET) is a small molecule that inhibits the PARP-1 enzyme, which is involved in DNA repair. 3AET is a potent inhibitor of the maleimide mutant, damaged endogenous and exogenous DNA. It has been shown to be orally active when polymerized into micelles for delivery to the nuclear compartment. The electrochemical properties of 3AET have been studied and found to be due to its ability to form carboxamides with amines from proteins such as histones and nucleic acids. 3AET also prevents the polymerization of dsDNA, which may be used for prevention of cancerous tumors.
