2-Amino-5-chloro-3-iodopyridine is an imino compound that is used as a ligand in various electron transfer devices. This compound has been shown to be effective against Cryptococcus neoformans and other fungi, with acidic properties and electron deficiency. 2-Amino-5-chloro-3-iodopyridine has also been reported to be a tautomeric form of pyridine, which is an aromatic heterocycle. The trifluoroacetic acid form of this compound can be synthesized by treatment of the amino form with trifluoroacetic acid or hydrogen chloride gas. 2-Amino-5-chloro-3-iodopyridine has been shown to yield high yields under milder conditions than the parent molecule pyridine. 2ACI has also been shown to bind to biomolecules such as DNA, RNA, and proteins.
