3-Amino-5-bromo-2-methylpyridine (3ABMP) is an organic compound that is used in organic synthesis as a cross-coupling agent. It is a chiral, dipolar molecule that can be synthesized from 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehyde and bromobenzene. 3ABMP has been shown to be effective for lysis of Gram negative bacteria such as E. coli, Salmonella enteritidis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but not Gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. The reaction mechanism of 3ABMP is thought to proceed through the formation of a reactive intermediate followed by nucleophilic attack on the electrophilic carbon atom of the aromatic ring. This reaction occurs via a Suzuki type coupling with an electron donor such as 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile or diphenylphosphinoethane
