Description

3-Acetylbenzenesulfonyl chloride is a potent inhibitor of the CFTR protein that is used to treat cystic fibrosis. It blocks chloride transport and reduces the number of mutations in the CFTR gene. 3-Acetylbenzenesulfonyl chloride has been shown to be synergistic with other drugs, such as VX-809, which inhibits another enzyme, ABCG2. This drug also has a chemical group that can bind to DNA and RNA to inhibit transcription and translation. 3-Acetylbenzenesulfonyl chloride binds to the F508del-CFTR protein by covalent modification, reducing incorrectors that are produced when the gene is mutated.
