Description

Allyloxytrimethylsilane is a colorless, odorless organic solution. It is soluble in ethyl acetate, tetrahydrofuran and benzene. Allyloxytrimethylsilane has been shown to be an effective broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, fungi and yeast. Allyloxytrimethylsilane has also been used as a coating on medical devices for its antibacterial properties. This compound is synthesized using a metathesis reaction between allyl bromide and trimethoxysilane with the use of an acid catalyst. The synthesis of this compound can also be achieved by adding allyl bromide to methyltriethoxysilane in the presence of a base catalyst.
