Acetylurea is a trimethyl derivative of urea that has potent antitumor activity. It is a molecule with the chemical formula CH3CONH2. Acetylurea inhibits protein synthesis in cells by binding to the enzyme nitrogenase, which is involved in the metabolism of ammonia. This drug inhibits the production of ammonia from amino acids and can be used as an anti-tumor agent. Acetylurea has been shown to have potential as a therapeutic agent for certain types of viral infections such as paramyxovirus and influenza virus, although it is not active against all viruses. Acetylurea also binds to DNA and RNA, but does not bind to proteins or carbohydrates.
