Allylurea is a nonpolar solvent that contains a hydrogen bond and a carbonyl group. Allylurea is synthesized by the reaction of a diazonium salt with an allyl alcohol in the presence of a strong base, such as sodium methoxide. The metastable form of this compound has been shown to react with radiation, forming the stable form. Inorganic acids can also be used in this synthesis method, which will produce different products depending on their structure and reactivity. The low energy of this compound means that it does not react easily with other compounds.
